It seems like the person who commissioned the sign is: (a), ignorant of the word’s meaning, thinking it refers to something else(which itotheir mind may be cool – cutting edge); or (b), Someone who is contemptuously making a statement about his or her view of the rest of humanity.
I’m beginning to hear “wanker” quite a bit, but contextually it seems to be used more in the sense of “jerk” rather than in its basic meaning, although in the UK, I’m sure it includes that connotation as well.
